Duck Hunting in Central Texas

Posted by gisupe on 15 января 2011

Duck hunting in Central Texas is a popular sport and recreational activity. This is an area full of agriculture and wildlife and Texas waterfowl such as ducks migrate throughout the state during various seasons. Duck hunting in Central Texas can be a great experience when you know where to go and how to be prepared.

Central Texas Mallard Hunting

The most common and popular duck to hunt in the Central Texas area is the Mallard. Around the Gulf Coast you will find redhead, widgeon, and pintails and puddle duck species are usually found in the south but in Central Texas, it’s all about the mallards and geese.

Regulations

There are regulations surrounding duck hunting in Central Texas. You cannot just shoot a bird in the wild whenever you choose. Classified as Texas waterfowl, duck hunting is regulated by the Texas Parks and Wildlife organization. You need a hunting license to hunt for duck. A migratory game bird stamp endorsement ($7) is required to hunt any migratory game bird, including mourning dove(a Federal Sandhill Crane Permit also is required to hunt sandhill crane). An upland game bird stamp endorsement ($7) is required to hunt turkey, quail, pheasant, lesser prairie chicken, or chachalacas. Be sure you are following any and all regulations and that you have the proper licenses and endorsements before duck hunting in Central Texas.

Bag Limits

Just as with many other types of hunting, there are “bag limits” which determine how many ducks each hunter is allowed to kill on a particular hunting session or period of time. All wounded game is considered a dead animal and will be counted toward your bag limit. Always check for bag limits any time you are hunting without a guide to be sure you follow all legal game regulations for the area. Since the number of duck in an area can vary from season to season, bag limits can change as well.

Hunting Packages

One of the easiest ways to go duck hunting in Central Texas is as part of a hunting package. There are companies and agencies, some with lodges, that offer packages on protected land or hunting reservations. Often the hunting is limited to a certain number of hunters so the ducks are less spooked and the catch is more readily available.

These hunting packages will usually also help you get any licenses and registrations that you need before you set out on your hunting adventure. They can take you with a tour guide as well in case you don’t know where to go or how to properly identify ducks while hunting in the wild.

Cleaning and Processing Your Birds

When you go duck hunting, you need to do something with the birds afterwards. It is illegal to throw them on the ground or out in the woods after hunting. Most hunters will take them with them to be processed or to clean and process themselves for eating later. Before you plan duck hunting in Central Texas, you need to plan for the cleaning and processing of your birds when you are done.

Whitetail Deer Hunting - Using the Funnel

Posted by gisupe on 13 января 2011

Image : http://www.flickr.com

One of the best ways to fill you whitetail deer tag this season is to hunt a funnel.  No matter where you hunt you will find numerous natural funnels that deer use daily.  Once hunting pressure starts, the deer will use the funnels even more and if your waiting, you will fill your tag.  Funnels are basically an area that concentrates deer as they are moving from one area to another.

To find a natural funnel all you have to do is look to the area you are hunting.  Any area that connects two areas of cover and provides some cover for the deer can be a funnel.  The funnel can be large or small.  Something as simple as a fence row  or draw connecting two wooded areas can be a funnel.  Although you make look at it and think that it doesn’t provide much cover the deer will use it if there isn’t any better cover for them to move from one area to the next.

Another natural funnel may be found where a wooded area narrows.  The deer will stay in the cover as long as possible before crossing to another area with cover.  If you have a woods that narrows you will find trails that the deer are using.  This area can be especially productive with deer drives.

A simple way to find funnels is to look for deer tracks.  On a heavily used funnel you will find numerous tracks and depending on how heavily used the funnel is you may even find ruts from all the tracks.  If you find this you have hit the right spot. Once you have found your funnel try to set up upwind of the funnel and as close to the cover as you can.  By setting up close to the cover you increase your chances of seeing deer when they come out just before the end of shooting time.

One last think to consider when looking for funnels is the possibility of deer using new funnels during hunting season.  If you know an area will be heavily hunted look for any cover that deer will navigate towards when pushed out of the hunted area.  Then look for anything that can be used as a funnel between the two areas.   Anything that may provide some cover will most likely be used. Put these tips to use and you will increase your chance for success.

Home Decorating With A Home Interiors Catalog

Posted by gisupe on 12 января 2011

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There are various sources which the homeowner can refer to when it comes to home decorating. One particularly popular source is the home interiors catalog. Just like other similar methods of looking for ways to design your home, this option will open up a huge variety of choices to the consumer. Not only will you get to have a lot of new ideas, this option is rather inexpensive and is very much affordable to all of us. Keep reading to educate yourself more on this matter.

First of all, one consideration that you should not miss is the multitude of companies that sells or produces these interior catalogs. For your information, there are many different ones on the market to choose from and while this fact indeed offers you with a greater selection, it can also make it more difficult for you to make your decision. In this case, many people simply decide to go for the organization they feel the most comfortable with.

While some have agents, in which a representative from the respective company actually comes to the person’s house to make recommendations as well as to collect orders, a lot do not really do this. In certain cases, your orders can be directly placed with the independent consultant. There are even some that offer online services, meaning that the customers can place their orders online.

Merchandise can differ by the individual provider. However, most carry somewhat similar items in nature. This can include mirrors, candles and other scented products for examples. Other decorations can include wall art and sometimes even throws and pillows to help accent the atmosphere one is trying to achieve.

For your information, delivery of the purchased goods may also differ. In some instances, your home decorating items are delivered directly to the door by the consultant that you have appointed. Those that order online may receive their shipments by mail through an independent delivery company. Anyway, the length of time that it takes to receive the ordered items is usually anywhere from a few days to a week.

All in all, transforming a space can be as simple as utilizing the right kinds of decorations but some homeowners may still need a little bit of extra help. Some of the companies which specialize in interior decoration may even provide value-added services to help you put everything together to achieve that perfect look that you have been longing for.

The author has been writing articles online for a couple of years now. Lately, he has also set up a new website on porcelain door knobs. Besides that, it has the best information on brass door knob too.

Lions hunting donkeys - BBC

Posted by gisupe on 8 января 2011

Donkeys bred in captivity offer easy pickings to two young lions. But their predatory instincts could well be their undoing as Nabian scientist and carnivore expert Philip ‘Flip’ Stander tells local farmers that they do have the right to kill the lions if the treat to their livestock is too great. Being Prepared, Scouting Your Hunting Area

Posted by gisupe on 6 января 2011

Image : http://www.flickr.com

For many of us, hunting is not something we do for one week or one month a year, it is what we look forward to each year that sort of defines how we conduct ourselves the rest of the year. Every time we drive down a back road or go for a hiking expedition in the state forest we are thinking of the time we are going to be out hunting for our favorite type of big game. For this time of year, we are daydreaming of the time when our plan comes together and we are actually successful. As we spend this time daydreaming or thinking about it, a plan is hatched on how we are going to accomplish it. Perhaps the best way to put this plan into motion is by scouting our hunting area so we are not guessing when that opening day finally arrives.

While walking into your hunting area will give you an idea or two about where you want to hunt and how, if you take your scouting trips seriously, it could possibly tell you a whole lot more. I treat my scouting trips more and more like a hunting trip each time out during the year so that I can learn such things as travel patterns, food sources, favorite trails, etc. To be truly effective doing this without changing their patterns requires me to be constantly aware of my scent, the commotion I make, and how close I get to my quarry. Instead of my focus being on getting close to the game like it is during hunting season, my focus is on staying back and observing the game without being detected.

Optics can play a vital role in your scouting as they allow you to get close to your quarry without physically trampling through their trails and bedding areas. A quality spotting scope is one item that can help to accomplish this. By finding a good vantage point and setting up your spotting scope on a tripod you can spend hours observing wildlife without being detected. It is also good to take along a small notepad to take notes on what you observe. You never know when you may notice something significant such as escape trails or how a buck may use the road less traveled to skirt an open field. Depending on when you observe this movement, you may forget about it later when you need that information most.

Another way to make a record would be through the use of a trail camera. With the time stamp and date on every picture you will be able to observe how patterns change as well as the old mossy horn that you had yet to see with your other scouting. Placing your cameras can get tricky because you really have to be careful not to spread your scent around too much in your area, or it could change the games movement.

With the use of optics, scent blockers, and common sense, your scouting trips will quickly become a vital ingredient in each and every hunting adventure you have. Knowing your area and the game within it, is just as important as knowing how to hunt. The best thing about scouting trips is it helps to appease your desire during the off season to be out in the woods hunting.
